Visin

Track calories without typing everything in

Visin is a free calorie counter for iPhone and Android where the fastest way to log a meal is a photo: point the camera at the plate and the app recognises the dish and estimates calories, protein, carbs and fat. Packaged food goes in by barcode, everything else through search or your own recipes.

Typing is where a lot of people stop

The average person types about 36 words per minute on a phone keyboard. Searching for every meal, estimating amounts and switching units is exactly the maintenance burden that kills food diaries. That is why the camera comes first in Visin, not the search field — and why what you logged most recently and most often sits at the top of the search results.

Four ways to log something

  • Photo of the meal. Recognition runs server-side and returns the dish, a portion size, calories and macros. Recognised values are marked as an estimate.
  • Barcode. For anything with a label — open the scanner, hold it up, done.
  • Search. A food database plus your own entries, sorted by "recent" and "frequent".
  • Your own recipes. Create one once (or import it from a link) and log a serving with a single tap afterwards.

"Roughly" is good enough — and adjustable

An estimate that lands in the diary in seconds is worth more than an exact figure nobody enters. So Visin says openly that a photo entry is an estimate, and lets you adjust the portion size before saving, which scales calories and macros with it. A single day over the target is not an event — the weekly report works from the average, not from yesterday.

Targets that match the plan

From height, weight, age, activity and goal, Visin derives a calorie target and a macro split. The weekly report checks that target against the actual weight trend over several weeks and suggests an adjustment when target and reality drift apart — not because of a single blip on the scale.

Recipes with real nutrition

Recipes can be created, imported from the web and shared. Visin calculates the nutrition per serving from the ingredients, so a home-cooked meal lands in the diary as fast as a packaged one. Shared recipes are readable in a browser through a link, without the app.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the calorie estimate from a photo?

It is an estimate, and the app shows how confident the recognition was. For dishes with visible components it is good enough to keep a trend; the portion size can be adjusted before saving. For packaged food the barcode scan is the more accurate route.

Does the calorie counter work offline?

Entries, recipes and the day view live on the device and sync later. Photo recognition needs a connection because it runs server-side.

Can I add my own foods and recipes?

Yes. Your own recipes are available immediately and can be logged as a serving. Foods you create go through a short review before they also show up in search for everyone else.

Does Visin track macros, not just calories?

Yes — protein, carbohydrates and fat are shown per entry, per day and in the weekly report.
